What Are Podcast Show Notes?

So you've created your audio content, now it's time to create the show note content.

Shownotes are recent content that go along with each podcast episode, these might be a summary of your episode, they might be a transcript, they might include dot points of resources and links that are mentioned.

We highly recommend that you create show notes, because oftentimes people will scroll through and skim through the show notes and read them before clicking on the episode to listen to.

Aaron: Before I listen to any podcast episode of a show that I've never listened to, I look at those show notes. I like conspiracy theory podcasts, so I will go on there and if it's written well, I'll know that at least it's you know, interesting, and by someone who's well read. If it's crackpot sort of stuff, I'll be like, "Hmmm maybe this is not the podcast for me."

The show notes are also a really great incentive to get people to go to your website.

So for example, on your podcast, you might say, "Hey, I've got a free PDF download or I've got a slideshow that illustrates what I'm talking about here. You can find them at the show notes at mywebsite.com/211."

And so that gives people an incentive to go to your website to view the show notes and from there, maybe they'll contact you, get in touch, or join your email list, or whatever it is that you want them to do.

So make sure you do create show notes, it is a bit of extra work, but it's well worth doing and something that should not be ignored when it comes to creating a successful podcast.
